# Edit a workspace

> Resolve a workspace file or saved name and open it in an editor.

Resolve a workspace file or saved name and open it in an editor. Use an explicit
path when editing a particular file.

## Open the file

With `vi` installed and [`workspace.yaml`](https://libtmux.org/en/csharp/latest/workspace/guides/installation/#create-the-input) saved:

```console
$ EDITOR=vi tmux-workspace edit workspace.yaml
```

The CLI waits for the editor and reports a failed child through its exit status.
Editor values can contain quoted arguments. They are parsed as an argument list;
shell pipelines and redirection require an explicit shell or wrapper.

[Discovery](https://libtmux.org/en/csharp/latest/workspace/guides/discovery/) explains saved workspace names.
